More About Tai Chi
Tai Chi is characterized by slow, smooth, continuous movements and is practiced today to promote health and wellbeing.
You and Tai Chi…
You’re here because you are curious about Tai Chi. Perhaps a health care professional recommended it, you saw a video of people serenely playing Tai Chi in a park, or perhaps you've read an article that cited studies describing the health benefits of Tai Chi.

Regardless of why you’re here, welcome. You don’t have to know or believe anything about Tai Chi to enjoy its benefits. You don’t even have to be good at it and it can still work for you. You simply have to do it. A weekly class at first. Then, hopefully, when you think of it, you’ll repeat a single movement or two that you remember from class and enjoy doing. Then, as the form becomes familiar to you, you’ll be moving long enough you’ll start to feel Tai Chi.
Sun Style Tai Chi
We teach Sun style Tai Chi, pronounced “soon", first developed by Sun Lutang. Sun style is the most upright, circular, and “soft” of all styles, and is characterized by follow-steps. This makes it a perfect match for seniors and those with conditions that make other forms of exercise difficult.

The “line” of Sun style Tai Chi we teach was developed by Dr. Paul Lam. Dr. Lam, a Pediatrician, was diagnosed with Arthritis in his 20s. The “First Six” and “Extended Six” forms have been modified by Dr. Lam to specifically address arthritis and fall prevention. In fact, the curriculum we teach has been proven so successful it was recommended in 2013 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Council on Aging.

Sun Style 2 and Sun 73, which we also teach, more directly reflect the traditional Sun style.
Does Tai Chi Improve My Health?
We don’t make health claims. However, most people who practice Tai Chi regularly believe they have better balance, move more safely, feel better, and are healthier as a result. As of 2024, literally hundreds of studies demonstrate the health benefits of Tai Chi. Perhaps the best book in this regard is The Harvard Medical School Guide to Tai Chi: 12 Weeks to a Healthy Body, Strong Heart, and Sharp Mind, available here. They said it, we didn’t. 🙂
